Why Athletes Love Racing in Western Australia

Athletes on the Western Australia triathlon course with coastal scenery

Western Australia has earned a reputation as one of Australia's premier destinations for long-course triathlon. Athletes appreciate the welcoming community, coastal scenery and the opportunity to race in a location that rewards months of dedicated preparation.

Many competitors extend their trip into a holiday, travelling with family, training partners or club members. Crossing the finish line after 226 kilometres of racing creates memories that last a lifetime.

Conditions

Typical Western Australian Conditions in December

December racing in Western Australia often brings conditions that reward smart preparation. As the race progresses, particularly during the marathon, clothing comfort becomes increasingly important.

☀️  Warm morning temperatures

🌡️  Hot afternoon conditions

☀️  Strong sunshine

🌬  Moderate coastal winds

💧  Low humidity compared with eastern states

☀️  High UV exposure

Dressing for an All-Day Endurance Event

Unlike shorter races, a long-distance triathlon places demands on your clothing for many hours. The apparel that feels comfortable during the first hour also needs to perform after eight, ten or even twelve hours of racing.

Experienced athletes generally choose lightweight clothing with excellent moisture management, minimal seams to reduce friction and fabrics that remain comfortable when wet.

Every item should be thoroughly tested during long training sessions before race day.

Race Day Clothing

Choose With the Marathon in Mind

The final 42.2 kilometres are often where your tri suit really matters.

After a 3.8 km swim and 180 km on the bike, your tri suit needs to remain comfortable, secure and breathable all the way through the marathon.

Many athletes choose:

✓   Seamless construction to reduce friction and chafing

✓   Full-length lockable front zip for ventilation during hot conditions

✓   Silicone arm and leg grippers to keep the suit securely in place

✓   Long-distance tri chamois designed for extended time on the bike

✓   Integrated chafe guard for additional neckline comfort

Comfort should always take priority over appearance.

Preparing your race equipment the night before helps reduce stress and lets you focus on enjoying the experience.
